Preparation

Dr. Grunberg will provide you with a set of personalized preparation instructions during your personal consultation. While preparation may vary between individuals, it is important to follow each instruction to facilitate a smooth recovery and optimal results.

Generally speaking, patients will need to avoid using certain medications or supplements, particularly those containing blood-thinning properties. If applicable, you should stop smoking and using nicotine. We also ask that patients arrange transportation home from their procedure and take time away from work or other responsibilities to recover.

Procedure

Your breast augmentation will begin with the cleansing and sterilization of the skin before anesthesia is administered to ensure you feel relaxed and comfortable. Once this has taken effect, Dr. Grunberg will make small incisions in areas where excess fat will be removed. The incisions will all be placed discreetly and meticulously to ensure minimal scarring and low visibility. Fat is typically harvested from areas such as the thighs, abdomen, flanks, or arms.

Dr. Grunberg will inject the chosen areas with a tumescent solution containing lidocaine, epinephrine, and saline to swell and loosen the fat cells, making them easier to remove. Lidocaine is used to help further numb the treatment area and reduce any discomfort, while epinephrine is used to minimize bleeding. A cannula will then be inserted into the body to emulsify and suction out the fat, leaving the donor areas more toned and defined.

Once enough fat has been collected, Dr. Grunberg will process and purify it to ensure only the most viable cells are being used. She will then inject the purified fat back into the breasts, evenly delivering it under the skin in layers to achieve a fuller appearance. (3)

Recovery

As breast augmentations are performed as an outpatient procedure, you will be released home on the same day as your appointment. It is normal to experience swelling or bruising in both the treated and donor areas, but these effects are temporary and will gradually subside. Any discomfort you may feel can usually be managed through the use of pain medications. Dr. Grunberg may also require you to wear a compression garment to help minimize swelling and protect your new contours. Most patients can typically return to work within 1-2 weeks, but should avoid physical activities or intensive tasks for several weeks.
