About Microneedling
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine needles to create hundreds of micropunctures in the skin. These controlled punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing processes; as a result, your body will turn over cells more quickly, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production. In one microneedling study, patients experienced a 400% increase in their skin’s collagen levels after just six months. (1)After a series of microneedling treatments, you can see great improvements in your skin. By stimulating collagen production, this treatment can reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles, diminish sun damage, fade visible scars, shrink enlarged pores, and more—all without a lengthy recovery period.
Microneedling with PRP
Adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to microneedling can help enhance the effects of the treatment, further rejuvenating the appearance and health of the skin. Platelets are the blood cells that help tissues heal. The PRP serum is derived from the patient’s own blood. This makes it ideal for patients who might be sensitive to synthetic ingredients. To create the PRP serum, we will take a small sample of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the blood into its components, then isolate plasma and platelets in a nutrient-rich solution.
When applied to the face during a microneedling treatment, PRP is thought to promote enhanced collagen production and the regeneration of tissue, naturally smoothing and tightening the skin.
Microneedling with Sculptra
Microneedling can also be combined with the biostimulator Sculptra as an effective way to restore volume to your skin while addressing signs of superficial aging and other imperfections. Sculptra is an injectable that is formulated from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microspheres that raise the skin’s collagen levels to increase volume. This combined treatment creates clearer skin while adding long-lasting volume beneath the skin.
Benefits
Microneedling offers several benefits, including:
- Smoother Skin: Microneedling can diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven textures, restoring a softer feeling to the skin.
- Clearer Complexion: This treatment can help you achieve clearer skin by reducing acne spots and scars.
- Enhanced Skin Elasticity: Microneedling stimulates neocollagenesis, which can help restore elasticity and firmness to the skin.
- Customizable Treatment Plan: Each treatment plan is designed around your skin tone, concerns, and goals, ensuring personalized outcomes.
- Non-Surgical: This treatment provides a minimally invasive option for anyone interested in enhancing their skin without the need for incisions or a lengthy recovery.
- High Safety Profile: Microneedling is a safe and effective procedure for most skin types and tones, especially when performed by qualified professionals like the team at Alluring Aesthetics.
Candidates
Microneedling procedures are available for anyone looking to improve skin tone and texture, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and more, without surgical intervention. Patients should be in generally good health without any conditions that could affect their ability to heal or undergo the procedure. Prospective candidates should maintain realistic expectations for their results. Most individuals see the best results after a series of treatments, so patients who are hoping to achieve substantial rejuvenation should also be willing to commit to their proposed treatment plan.
Consultation
Your microneedling treatment will begin with a consultation. During this meeting, we will discuss your aesthetic goals, explore your medical history, and perform a physical examination of your skin to create a personalized treatment plan. Please come prepared with questions you have about the treatment. We can also discuss additional treatments that may help you refine your results at this time.

Preparation
As a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment, microneedling does not require extensive preparation. However, there are a few guidelines to follow to optimize treatment. Patients should avoid drinking alcohol at least 24 hours before their appointment. Any medications or supplements with blood-thinning properties should also be avoided under medical guidance, as directed. Certain skincare products, like those with salicylic acid, retinols, or harsh cleansers, should also be ceased about a week beforehand. Following these requirements and any others you receive will ensure the microneedling procedure goes smoothly.
Microneedling Treatment Process
On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with clean skin, without makeup and/or skincare products. First, we will cleanse your skin and apply a topical numbing cream. Next, we will use a hand-held device to penetrate the skin with tiny needles. You may feel a light pressure during the treatment, and some patients experience a mild buzzing sensation. As these needles puncture your skin, your body will respond by initiating its healing processes and stimulating collagen production over time. Depending on your treatment plan and the aesthetic goals you would like to address, we may make several passes over your skin to ensure effective treatment.
After Your Treatment
After your microneedling session, you will likely experience some redness, similar to a sunburn. This redness typically lasts for about 2-5 days, diminishing as the skin continues to heal. Microneedling does not require a lengthy recovery period. Some patients experience dryness, tightness, and/or peeling temporarily. We recommend that you avoid wearing makeup and swimming for approximately 24-48 hours. You should also avoid excessive sun exposure and wear sunscreen consistently after your treatment to protect your skin. (2)
Results

While some patients see results after just one microneedling treatment, most patients benefit from a series of treatments for the most impactful results. The standard recommendation is about 3-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
After patients complete their microneedling regimen, they often notice softer, more youthful-looking skin, diminished wrinkles, faded spots and imperfections, and more! Patients who combine their microneedling session with PRP or Sculptra may see improved skin elasticity and volume, respectively.
Additional Treatments
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers add natural-looking volume to the skin for a fuller, more youthful-looking appearance. Volume loss can contribute to an aged appearance and cause you to appear tired, angry, or sad. Restoring volume can help you achieve a rejuvenated appearance with smoother skin. Common areas for filler injection include the cheeks, temples, under-eyes, and lips.
MicroLaserPeel
The Sciton MicroLaserPeel uses focused light energy to increase collagen production to address signs of aging. We may recommend a series of these treatments to refresh your skin, depending on the condition of your skin and your aesthetic goals.
Botox
Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that reduces fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles and limiting the production of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle movements. It is commonly used to address the wrinkles that form between the eyebrows (glabellar or ‘11’ lines), forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
