The Sciton MicroLaserPeel is a minimally invasive skin resurfacing technique designed to correct mild to moderate wrinkles and sun damage. This “weekend peel” blends away fine lines and diminishes discoloration. It is an effective alternative for those who don’t want to take time away from their daily routine for more invasive treatments.

Many patients are looking for hassle-free in-office treatments that offer great results. And MicroLaserPeel offers a non-invasive option for skin resurfacing without sacrificing efficacy. Other laser treatments, such as fractional CO2 lasers, may require weeks of recovery and limit activities. With a MicroLaserPeel, patients can expect beautiful results with minimal downtime.

About the MicroLaserPeel

The Sciton MicroLaserPeel uses an Er:YAG laser to remove a very thin layer of skin. The laser beam is delivered to the skin in a precisely controlled pattern. As the laser passes over the skin, heat is generated which causes vaporization and removal of the outer layer of the skin. A MicroLaserPeel procedure has three primary goals:

  • Remove the outer layer of skin to reveal the fresh, healthy skin underneath
  • Stimulate collagen production to improve skin tone and tighten the skin
  • Minimize downtime from the procedure

The treatment achieves these goals because the ErYAG laser emits energy at the optimal wavelength for targeting water in the epidermis, enabling it to vaporize skin precisely and effectively. In turn, the controlled injury to tissues achieves neocollagenesis – the body’s production of skin-supporting collagen molecules. (1)

What Can a MicroLaserPeel Treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown spots
  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Large pores
  • Rough skin texture

The Versatility of the MicroLaserPeel

The depth of the peel is adjustable, allowing for customized treatments. With a deeper peel, the results will be more dramatic but the recovery time will be longer. For those who want subtle results with reduced downtime, a shallow peel is recommended. In particular, MicroLaserPeel treatments have been shown to be highly effective in treating concave acne scars. Candidates

Ideal candidates for the Sciton MicroLaserPeel are adults who want to reduce wrinkles and improve the texture of their skin without undergoing a more invasive procedure. Patients should have realistic expectations and understand that the results may not be immediately visible after the procedure.

In order to be a good candidate for this procedure, you must also be in good overall health. Patients who have active cold sores or acne may not be suitable candidates for this treatment. Additionally, patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should abstain from this procedure.

The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for the Sciton MicroLaserPeel is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Grunberg.

Preparation

Once your MicroLaserPeel has been scheduled, you’ll receive detailed preoperative instructions. Following these instructions diligently will ensure that your procedure goes as smoothly as possible.

Before your Sciton MicroLaserPeel, you should avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least one month prior to your procedure. You should also avoid taking medications, such as Accutane, that can increase your sensitivity to light. Additionally, you should stop using any isotretinoin products one week before and after your treatment.

MicroLaserPeel Procedure

A Sciton MicroLaserPeel is usually performed using local anesthesia. This involves numbing the area to be treated with injections of a long-lasting numbing medication. You may feel a slight stinging sensation when the injections are administered, but the procedure itself is relatively comfortable.

Once the area is numb, a stream of tiny laser pulses is delivered to the skin. The laser energy targets the outermost layers of the skin, removing unwanted damaged tissue while stimulating collagen production in the underlying layers.

Recovery & Results

The recovery time depends on the depth of the peel. For a light peel, most patients are able to return to work or their normal activities within 2-3 days. For deeper peels, it may take up to a week to recover.

You may experience some redness, swelling, and flaking following your procedure. Dr. Grunberg will provide you with instructions and recommend products to help you manage these effects. For best results, it’s important to protect your skin from the sun by wearing sunscreen and a hat when outdoors. You should also avoid strenuous activities, hot baths, and hot tubs until your skin has had time to heal.
